The first Glug event of 2011 took place on 24th Feb at Cargo and unsurprisingly it was a sell out. I have never seen queues so long outside Cargo for a Glug event and it seems the profile of Glug is increasing each time!
Source has been sponsoring Glug for over 6 months now. At each event we have an area reserved in the front bar where complimentary beers will be found or you can opt for a complimentary burger from the outside BBQ – that’s if you arrive nice and early to claim your ticket! Even standing in the queue waiting for your burger you will no doubt get talking to someone or find something in common with the person in front or behind you.
Who were the speakers?
This month’s list of speakers was a mixture of inspiring, intelligent, thought leading creative minds from different backgrounds all with a story to tell. A packed main room at Cargo saw ‘Things to Make and Do’ – with Arts & Business. Speakers included;
- Eliza Williams, Creative Review
- Piers from Designers Block
- Mark Davy, Futurecity
- Mr Smith
- Toby Barnes, Mudlark
- Catherine Lock
More information on each speaker can be found at http://www.meetup.com/gluglondon/events/16078016/
Theme for February Glug
With the theme of the night being “things to make and do” and Creative Review kicking off the order of the night, Source decided to offer 3 ‘Gluggers’ a chance of winning 3 free annual Creative Review subscriptions. We set up a Foursquare check-in called “glug @ cargo” (where we managed to get 36 unique check-ins). Alternatively people could Tweet during the night mentioning @wearesource. Source selected at random 3 winners for the CR subscription. The winners were @MatDolphin @clairepinegar @jameswarfield We were blown away with the response and very pleased to be involved with this giveaway. We were also surprised that more people checked-in then tweeted on the night! In fact we were only 14 check-in’s short of unlocking the swarm badge on Foursquare, which is a challenge we will be looking to achieve from future Glug events!
If you want to get involved with the night please don’t hesitate in getting in touch or keep an eye out on the Glug calendar. We will be updating the blog every month with an overview of the last Glug event. We hope to see you there one day…
