If you are exploring career opportunities and interested in finding out more about roles in Product then you might find the following useful. Product managers look after the development of online products, from inception phase to it’s launch and then help iterate after a product launch, based on feedback. Using data and research alongside a product team, they manage existing products and identify ways to enhance those products to fulfil the user and business needs. Digital is maturing at a rapid rate, which means to be a product manager you must be tech-savvy but also business savvy. Digital Product managers should have a good grasp of technology, and are usually skilled in areas such as user experience, agile methodology, finance and marketing. Soft skills are also important, given the nature of a product manager's role, liaising with internal stakeholders, users and colleagues.

A Product Designer is someone that oversees the entire product, working with strategic thinking across the UI and UX of a new product or rethinking an existing one. A product could be a complex website, a platform, an app or tv interface for example. A Product Designer may also have a tech background to understand the coding and possibilities of a product. The day to day tasks may include:

  • Wireframing
  • Coding/Prototyping
  • Creating style guides and patterns
  • Conceptualising product definitions and naming conventions
  • Building requirements documentation with other engineers and designers
  • Manning support and helping to better understand the customers from the front-lines & other things to help tie up loose ends on the design side which could involve how to market the product.
